The Niederhelden chapel, a place for solace and reflection in the Repetal valley, was first mentioned in official records in 1371.
Josef Belke built the original headquarters of today*s hotel in the upper village of Niederhelden in 1878. It was later converted into a shop selling colonial goods. The Struck family acquired the delightful half-timbered house in 1914 and ran a carpentry workshop, farm and inn within its walls.
Once the First World War had drawn to a close, electric light was finally installed in Niederhelden in 1919 – and the first guest bathroom was furnished at our establishment around the same time. The inn became a popular meeting place for the village community and visitors.
The Struck family increasingly focussed on the wishes of guests from the Rhineland and the Ruhr region during the 1960s. The number of visitors from these regions rose sharply, as they were keen to enjoy local cuisine during their holidays. Guests were even weighed after their stay – as gaining a few pounds was considered a sure sign of successful holidays. Everything exuded the lightness of being as holidays became affordable for more and more people. Some even viewed them as normal.
Construction of the bowling alley in 1967 was the first step in numerous measures to refurbish and remodel the hotel.
The Struck family gave up farming in 1970 and devoted themselves from then on to the catering and tourism business. The hotel's indoor swimming pool was built during this period, along with a new wing with 10 hotel rooms – each with its own shower and WC.
The hotel was thoroughly renovated from 2017 to 2021, also expanded to include a spacious wellness and spa area. Since October 2021, the hotel has operated as Struck Landhotel & SPA under the management of Fidelity Hotels & Resorts GmbH.
The establishment’s coat of arms explains the origin of the name Struck. A stem emerges from a wooden stump, which was changed to the name Struck as time went by. This stem (lat.: ramus) symbolises renewal and growth at the country hotel. The helmet above the shield (lat.: cassis) stands for unshakeable perseverance in life. The goddess Fortuna represents luck and happiness.
We look forward to welcoming you soon as guests at our traditional establishment.
